Finishing class project

Yarn: Encore by Plymouth Yarn
What I Learned: Tons! How to sew seams (mattress, grafting, invisible). picking up stitches, button-holes.
Comments: I took this class with my mother. I now feel somewhat comfortable about sewing a sweater. I was intimidated with the sewing of seams, but now I should be OK. We gave our sweaters to my DD's. They got to pick out the buttons.

Wedding Wrap

Name: Bobble-Trimmed Shawl from the book "Very Easy, Very Vogue"

Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease worsted weight, black #153

What I Learned: Bobbles

Comments: I made this shawl to wear to my brother Allen's wedding in Canada. This was the first large project that I've tried to tackle. I went down to the wire on getting it done it time. My mom had to help me with the bobbles. There was a mistake in the pattern that caused us much chagrin. I became a better knitter by doing this project, just by the shear amount of knitting it required. I think it turned out pretty well, with only a few mistakes that I will keep to myself.

Stitch n Bitch Alien Illusion Scarf

Yarn: Plymouth Yarn Encore #217 & #3335

What I learned: Carrying colors along the side

Comments: I made this for my brother Allen as a wedding present. He and I used to watch "X-Files" together when we were in college, hence his receiving an alien scarf. Unfortunately, I didn't finish it in time. I was hoping he would be able to take it with him on his honeymoon to London. I think illusion or shadow knitting is very cool. What a conversation piece! I have another scarf pattern to knit for myself that I got from the TV show "Knitty Gritty", of which I am a huge fan. Look for it in future blogs.
