Swatch Watch

Do y'all remember Swatch watches? Anyone who was ANYONE had one in the mid-eighties. Miss Lovie sported the clear one with the clear jelly guard. Stylin'! I even had a peach colored Swatch polo shirt, which I wore in my 7th grade school photo. Yes, I looked hideous with the chrysanthemum bangs and braces. No, I will not show you the picture.

Now, when I think of a swatch, I think of this. As I mentioned in a previous post, we are knitting swatches of all of the yarns we are carrying in the store. This is no small chore. Here are a few that I've done.

Sheryl has created a blog to keep up with the progress of the store. For those of you who are interested, check it out here. There are some cool before and after pictures on there. And if you enjoy seeing yarn p0rn, boy do we have it.

I have the privilege of meeting another blog friend this afternoon. The lovely FarmGirl will be flying in to Houston this afternoon, and I'm going to take her out to lunch and give her a personal tour of the shop. I can't wait!

Did any of y'all catch the premier episode Stitchcraft on Oxygen this past Sunday? From what I saw, it is more of a glimpse of knitting in the fashion world as opposed to a technique program. I enjoyed it, and I hope there will be more episodes to come.

Finally, for those of you who were wondering, Penny Karma is my first-cousin. Believe it Monkee!

I had three swatch watches ;o) One was clear, I can't remember the others clearly....(okay that pun was not intentional)...

The store is coming along great! Hopefully someday I can make a trip to see it in person ;o)

Holy cabooses that is a lot of yarn. You are superwoman -- I get overwhelmed just looking at it on the computer from 2000 miles away. I love the idea of a sock knitting display, by the way (mentioned on the store blog). And as I've said before, yarn swatches are the most helpful thing of all in a yarn store.

Go you!

You have been busy. I think a blog recording the progress is a great idea.

I had a white swatch watch. Instead of numbers on the dial, there were the letters L-O-V-E. The hands of the watch were heart shaped.

Oh yes, I too had a Swatch watch. I had the black one with the little white pinstripes. I too think of knitting swatches when I hear that word know.

That's a lot of swatches, but they will be so helpful to your customers!

The swatches look fantastic all laid out like that! And I definitely remember Swatch watches- mine was green with the a light green guard. The guards were the coolest because you could play around and accessorize your outfits. ;-) I remember the braces and high hair well, too. ;-) So wonderful to see all the progress with the shop- I'm so excited for both of you! Take care, Amy! :-)

I have several swatch watches. I say "several" because I don't know how many I have. 7? who knows.

I hope I can get out to Katy to meet you and see your store before the end of the month!

I can't believe how much yarn there is! It's awesome, I would be rolling around in it ;)

The swatches are a great idea, the store is beautiful and I know you guys are going to be really successful. I hope I end up in Katy some day and get the chance to visit your store.

I remember my Swatch watch (worn with my teased up bangs and the stupid lace headband). I shudder to think about that!

Great idea to swatch all your yarns. I think that's a big selling point (as well as your mom's felted flowers).

Talk about yarn p0rn! I just glanced at the photos on the blog! Now I'm off to read about it.

My parents wouldn't buy me a Swatch watch. I was a deprived child. :(

You have been mighty busy though! Your swatches look great! I'm off to check out the store blog now.

I am jealous that you had the clear Swatch watch. I always wanted one of those! Mine was all black - black strap, face, and even the black protector thingie. Did you know that there are still Swatch stores in Europe?

You know, if you wanted to meet up to do an early tour of the shop for the podcast and lunch, I'm on spring break this week ... it would be perfect timing! :D Let me know what you think!

Sydney says "swatch" as "watch" because she still has trouble w/ double consonants. Last night we were having a converstaion that went a little like this...

"Mommy, what's that gonna be?"
"It's a swatch."
"A watch?"
"No, a swatch."
"A watch?"
"No, it's a swatch. A watch is what you wear on your arm."
"No, it's a watch. Are you gonna wear it on your arm?"

This went on for awhile... It's a good thing Swatch watches aren't still popular - that would REALLY confuse her!

I had a swatch watch too, one with the clear face so you could watch the gears move... those were the days. Thank God those bangs aren't back in style... BTW, I thought you looked familiar when I read your blog before, and now I know why! We're from the same hometown sista... WHS rocks!

How funny, Webs is currently in the midst of Swatch-o-rama too! I always feel slightly guilty because I'm there the most and grab the yummiest yarns to swatch...we get paid 5 dollars in store credit to swatch, but my favorite bonus is the leftover yarn!

I had a Texan in the store the other day and I totally told her to check out Yarntopia in the future!
